PhD student (m/f)
code: 66/2010


to work on the “Impacts of global change on functional and phylogenetic diversity”, starting 1. September, 2010, for three years.

The successful candidate will combine and analyze existing data on chiefly flora and vegetation and the relationship to environmental pressures. A special focus will be on the impact of global change on composition and distribution of functional traits, the resulting ecosystem functions and phylogenetic relationships.

We seek a person with the following qualifications:
- University degree in biology, geography, geo-ecology, landscape ecology, agricultural ecology or related disciplines, preferably with a background in vegetation science
- Experience in the analysis of functional traits and/or phylogenetic diversity
- Experience in the handling of databases (e.g. Access, Oracle)
- Sound Knowledge in basic statistics
- Enthusiasm to learn advanced statistics
- Proficient English, both written and spoken

The place of work is Halle, Germany. Salary will be according to the appropriate civil service level TVÖD 13 (50%). The successful candidates will be working in a highly interdisciplinary research environment with excellently equipped facilities. The PhD students participate in the newly established Graduate School HIGRADE (http://www.ufz.de/index.php?en=11429).
